There's a new sheriff in town

Hello all!

Haven't had much time for painting these last months, but tonight I managed to finish this guy.

He's a member of my new band of mercenaries. I see this guy as an old gnarled enforcer from a backwater planet, dishing out his own brand of frontier justice.

  1. I'm getting a sort of Father Callahan vibe. Nice.

    1. Haven't read the Dark Tower series (gave up after the first book) so I had to google that...
I was thinking about Max vonSydows Judge Fargo when he goes on the long walk, bringing justice to the Cursed Earth.

  2. He is brilliant mate - superb - how far off a group shot are we?

    1. Thanks! Cohesive was what I was aiming for! ;-)

  4. He looks great - really weatherbeaten and tough. All the parts come together very well. Can I ask how you painted the metal on his gun, please?

    1. It's all drybrush and washes! Begin with nuln oil over the grey undercoat. Then drybrush with leadbelcher. After that some washes of sepia and earthshade followed by a light drybrush of silver only on selected raised details.

    2. Thanks, I'll give that a try!

  5. Awesome <3 All the parts contribute to the model's identity, without being forced. And I always like how you manage to make the colours look dirt without being messy!

I also noticed you used a 32mm base for this guy, and did the same for the pylgrymage squad. I like it, it feels less crammed and more scenic. Might try that too...

    1. Something I picked up from John a few years ago. The larger bases gives the minis "sanctity of space" as he puts it.

  7. Very cool miniature, Johan! The pole dolly - is it selfmade?
PS: Congrats to the great Rogue Stars artworks! :D

    1. Cheers! Haven´t received my book yet...

The puppet is made from a dark angel banner top, a spear, some spines from a wrack and greenstuff.

  8. Excellent as always, but I particularly like the patina on the shotgun. Washes over metallics, or something more exotic?

Nah. Just washes over metallics. See my answer to Toby's post for the full breakdown.

  10. Nice and simple, and yet has his own story to tell. The little doll on his banner is a nice touch!

  13. Unrelated question, but I tried asking on the relevant post and it's old so you probably haven't seen it, but how do you do the rust on the metallics on your Nurgle guys? Like the scythe to the left of this picture: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Oh9AXgRPchk/Vu7N2G93GMI/AAAAAAAAE3w/nP2JNU66mf4/s640/blogger-image-1757901084.jpg

I could really use some colour splashes on my own Nurgle dudes...

And of course, this guy looks great. Really digging these mercenaries. The back pole is great, adds a lot of character without being this huge central piece banner.

    1. Sorry mate - I tend to miss later comments. I rarely go back to check a post efter a week or so...

I make the rust by painting jokaero orange into the holes and crevices and then wash with fuegan orange.

Glad you dig - I agree about the pole. He needed something to make him stand out - it also adds some "weirdness".

    2. Thanks! That disgustingly simple, I was thinking rust powders and whatnot.

Yep, weirdness is good here. I like the "John Blanche meets JRN" vibe with a lots of purity seals, grime, simple color scheme with deep reds..

  14. Heya, I really love the modelling and painting ;). May I ask where the arms with the shotgun come from? I have been looking for something like that for quite some time. Thanks in advance

The shotgun arms are from the new gene cultists. There's loads of great bits in that kit!

  16. I was diagnosed as HEPATITIS B carrier in 2013 with fibrosis of the
liver already present. I started on antiviral medications which
reduced the viral load initially. After a couple of years the virus
became resistant. I started on HEPATITIS B Herbal treatment from
ULTIMATE LIFE CLINIC (www.ultimatelifeclinic.com) in March, 2020. Their
treatment totally reversed the virus. I did another blood test after
the 6 months long treatment and tested negative to the virus. Amazing
treatment! This treatment is a breakthrough for all HBV carriers.
