Three down...

Two to go, for a full squad.
After that we´ll see what happens - might do more of these guys or move on to something else. I´m sort of waiting for the full kit so I can really go to town on some properly sized deathwatch models. In any case I´ve got some of my hobby mojo back!

Ironfather

Just a quick update to prove I'm still alive and that I'm doing stuff... Almost done with the Ironfather ( my second take on the subject as a matter of fact).

Here's a quick shot of him next to the naval officer for scale.

- edit -

Replaced the servoarm with a slightly more imposing one.

Iron and flesh

The mechanicvs truly is the coolest thing GW has put out in a long time - and that's saying something considering their relentless release-pace these last two years. I'm in hogs heaven just mixing the new kits with stuff in my bits box and see what comes out.

Here's two new ones - both based on old abandoned kitbashes:

To the left is a sinister splice-seer genetor based on a haemonculii concersion I never really liked. To the right the beginnings of an Iron Hand Ironfather - the Iron Hands feel like natural allies to the mechanicvm so I wanted to include at least one in the warband.

Papas boy

Here's the latest of Papa Nurgles minions in color. Turned out browner than planned, I was aiming for a dirty off-white, but I'm still quite happy with the armour.

Here he is next to the gunslinger for a sense of scale (he's mounted on a round 30mm base).

It's nice to be back painting after the concussion - even if I had to paint it slowly with a lot of breaks.

Death Guard

The nurglii marine is more or less finished.

I'm really happy with the way he turned out - a very classic plaguemarine reminiscent of Jes's and Dave Andrews early 90's models. The old school bolter certainly helps to reinforce that image.

Putrid Blightmarine

Here's the first conversion to come out of the new blightkings.
Started off with a death guard as the possibilty for truescaled plague marines became apparent the moment I saw the first pictures of the kit. Still extremely work in progress - the boltpistol is very much a placeholder and will be replaced by something chunkier.

Who watches the deathwatch?

The urge to paint something suddenly struck! I looked around on my desk and my eyes fell on the truescale deathwatch marine I converted a while ago and has been standing there since then, undercoated and unloved.

Say hello to Brother Sirius of the Deatchwatch. He supposedly belongs to a secretive dark angel successor chapter with stronger than usual ties to the Ordo Xenos.

The greenstuff work on his legs is admittedly complete crap - sculpting flat armour surfaces are just not my thing - but I tried to cover that up (he might receive a cosmetic purity seal or two as well...)

Further experiments in truescaling

Here's my new take on a truescaled marine.
And, yes, I know the best way is using tartaros terminator bodies but I haven't managed to lay my grubby mitts on a full kit yet. That said I have some tartaros arms and these I combined with a deathwing legs and a grey knight torso.

There's even some grey stuff work on this one - primarily trying to bulk out the upper legs. Still learning about sculpting though - I find it terribly frustrating (well, lets be honest - it's a royal pain in the ass). Getting those smooth surfaces - just don't get how they do it...
Oh well...

First batch of 2014

Hello dear readers, and welcome to the first real update of 2014.

Here what's on the workbench at the moment:

Hardline puritan inquisitor Korsakov.
Needs some grimdarking/wierding up methinks - a servoskull or something of that sort. Apart from that pretty happy with this guy so far.

Also in the works are two more truescale marines.

Not quite as pleased with these guys though. We'll have to see what I'll do with them...

Metal warrior

Oh yeah. I listened to Manowar as a kid. Wanna make something of it?

Here's Iron Father Theremine in a more-or-less finished state:

I say more-or-less as there's a few details left but I sort of got bored on the finishing line. Gonna leave him be for awhile a focus on something else.

More machine now than man

Finally some real progress on the Iron Hand marine:

I think he's imposing enough to be an Iron Father. As most of my names are nicked from music history in one way or another, I find "Iron Father Theremine" quite fitting.

To be or not to be

Yes, I know Hamlet doesn't say those lines while holding "The Skull", but I squandered the correct quote on the last post.

Anyway - the Iron Hand conversion is nearing completion.

I have to admit I'm really, really, pleased with this conversion.
It's like a little one-model diorama...
And, although the "contemplating a skull" pose may be a rather overused cliché it works here nonetheless.

I'll add some details like rivets and a parchment or two, but apart from that it's more or less done.

Jobs a good 'un.

Alas, poor Yorick...

Here's the true scale Iron Hand I was talking about earlier:

I really like the Iron Hands with all that grim-dark mechanicus stuff going on. One of the few marine chapters apart from Grey Knights (and a few others) I find truly compelling from a modelling perspective.

EDIT:

Here's a take with a different pose and head.

Sense of scale

Hello.

Haven't had as much hobbytime as usual - hence the (at least for me) rather sporadic communiques...

I have had some time for hobbying though, and that's been spent on creating two new truescale Mortifactor marines ( on none other than Inq 28s Commisar Molotovs suggestion) tthat'll serve as NPC characters in a game of inquisimunda at Warhammer World  this month. More on this later on.

Anyway, on to the pics - here's the first one , "Sargeant Danzig":

And here's the second one (obviously a work in progress):

I've gone completely nuts for these truescale marines lately (as you might have noticed) and are also working on two other ones - a Deathwatch killteam member and an Iron Hand marine of some sort.

Knight and angel

Made and painted a body for the "tutorial head". And in record time methinks.

Quite pleased with this one.

I also cobbled together a freaky little cherubivm to keep him company:

Good Knight - part III

Forgot to post the pics of the finished Questing Knight...

Here you go:

I call him a Questing Knight and should perhaps explain that:

Sometimes a Grey Knight encounter a particular daemon (often the one whose name the Knights name is based on) with which they form a special kind of antagonistic bond. They become each others nemesis.

The knight may in some cases take leave of the chapter and become a Questing Knight - sworn by oath to hunt down his nemesis or die trying.
Slay the dragon as it were, although princesses are seldom involved...

They're forbidden to rejoin the chapter until they've completed their quest. Such starfaring marines often join up with inquisitors who can help them with information and resources, as they're completely cut off from their chapter.
