The first rievier squad is done! Had a go at batchpainting the last three but to be honest I think it´s more time effective to paint them individually as I find working on several models at the same time so abysmally tedious...
Oh well - this small army is now up to ten models with more on the way!
I´ve also started work on a Deathwatch lieutenant - I´ll have a few of these guys in the army as the idea is that the Metatron has extremely close ties with the Ordo Xenos and virtually all of the chapters veterans has served in the Deathwatch. Some are allowed to retain their armour and equipment when they go back to the home chapter.
Last but not least (though somewhat vertically challenged compared to the primarines) is a hardy squat warrior I threw together for my long gestating band of mercenaries. He´s based on one of the new Duardin Overlords with a headswap and armed with a Phobos pattern bolter - incidentally my favourite bolter design.
Really like how this crew is shaping up - there´s something no-nonsense and down to earth about these guys.
The way you paint black (and build it up) is just superlative and awesome. Personally, my favourite boltgun is the one from 2nd Ed; there is just something coldly utilitarian about it.
ReplyDeleteCheers!
DeleteThe phobos pattern and the classic 2nd ed bolter are pretty similar. The main difference is the sleeker tapering front bit, which helps make it slightly less boxy. But yeah - 'ol brickbolter is a ageless classic.
Just so badass and subtle, I think that is my fav part of your work, the subtlety. Are you sure you're not Raven Guard or Alpha Legion...
ReplyDeleteHaha! It's subtle - not sneaky☝️
DeleteDigging the card in the first picture ;)
ReplyDeleteIt was given to me by some higly talented, bearded individual.
DeleteSexy! Which one did you get - I dealt them randomly to everyone.
DeleteWith you on the batch VS individual method. Lovely work and always great to see a squat!
ReplyDeleteThe overlords made squat conversions roughly 100% easier.
DeleteDefinitely my favourite Squat conversion on the internet so far! I love how similar your miniature painting and character creation style is to your illustrations, these blokes look like they jumped straight out of a drawing of yours.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever thought about doing artwork based of your modelling work?
Cheers Jordan!
DeleteI guess there is a certain similarity. Probably the way I pose the models and the choice if colours.
I try to let the bitz dictate the models - it's a very organic process, so basing them on a finished design would sort of work against that methodology.
Phobos Bolters are my favourite too, can't wait to make my BoP MKIII guys. Those Reivers look ace, love that scheme, you settled on a name?
ReplyDeleteYep. The Metatron, short and simple.
DeletePhobos pattern all the way! Personally I prefer all of those older, heresy era designs, Phobos pattern weapons, Deimos pattern rhinos, mkiii armour etc. I love it when people bring them into their 41st millennium stuff. It gives a real sense of antiquity, that this stuff is still being used.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's always nice to mix things up. That constant amalgam of ancient and new technology is such a huge part of what makes 40k tick.
DeletePlus - I just really like the design of the Phobos bolter.
It's all so good!
ReplyDelete😊
DeleteThis post is so full of "wow"! That squat had me pining for my long sold rt squats. Lovely work mate.
