The Enemy Within

GW has been revisiting several factions from the golden days of the early 90´s recently. Knights, Adeptus Mechanicus, and Harlequins among others. One such faction I thought we´d never see again, something long lost in the mists of time, were the Genestealer Cultists.
Therefore the release of Deathwatch Overkill came as a very pleasant surprise indeed.

I managed to lay my grubby mitts on some hybrids and promptly painted up one just for fun - straight out the box for once. Damn I love these models.

  1. That's a great updated color scheme for the hybrids. I love the old classic models, but this looks so much more modern and gritty compared to the old, bright blues and purples.

    1. Thanks! This was sort of a test model actually. If I do a whole gang I'll try to make the skin to be a bit grayer.

  4. Very nice! I like that you've kept the old mottled skin bit, but updated the palette. I also think it was a good choice to stick to a semi-monochrome scheme on the equipment, clothing and kit. It looks an awful lot like actual industrial work garb and the pops of red add a little interest. The focus, though, ends up on the skin and I think that's a good thing. I've been toying with wether to paint the harder carapace bits in more skin-like tones on the later-gen hybrids, and I think you may have just convinced me. I thought, briefly, about maybe doing ragged skin stretched over the exoskeleton, maybe with a couple tears in it, a la District 9, but I think that's too much work and I'll never get around to painting them if I do it...

    1. Yeah - I wanted him to look at least semi-human. The carapace bits could perhaps benefit from a few more washes and perhaps some dots like on the head. All in all I wanted to keep the skin fairly human looking.

  5. They tick all the right boxes for me. Had the box in my hand today but bottled it.
Really nice paint, the faces are make or break on these gene boys but you nailed it.

  6. I too am totally in love with these sculpts.

Really like your scheme here. Eroding my resolve NOT to pick up a set....

  7. Lovely paintjob! The face is great, and the dots on his head is a really nice touch. I was really hoping to see your version of the Genestealer hybrids. And now that I have, I really hope you paint more of them!

  11. Really nice work, I fond of the head color choice and the light you put on it. I hope to see the other soon!
How did you realise the paint of the red soil?

  12. Cheers folks! Didn´t expect this much attention for a simple unconverted mini!

@Larg: The base is painted with the red GW textured paint (forgotten what its called), washed with Typhus Corrosion which adds a little extra texture. Then I apply Tamyia iron oxide powder by mixing it with water and painting it on in patches. After that I drybrush with bone. Done!

  13. I was diagnosed as HEPATITIS B carrier in 2013 with fibrosis of the
liver already present. I started on antiviral medications which
reduced the viral load initially. After a couple of years the virus
became resistant. I started on HEPATITIS B Herbal treatment from
ULTIMATE LIFE CLINIC (www.ultimatelifeclinic.com) in March, 2020. Their
treatment totally reversed the virus. I did another blood test after
the 6 months long treatment and tested negative to the virus. Amazing
treatment! This treatment is a breakthrough for all HBV carriers.
