The gears are turning

Like everybody and their uncle I'm jumping on the lumbering steel tracked bandwagon of the Adeptus Mechanicus.

I haven't been able to get my hands on a skitarii kit yet - as they're completely sold out - but I did manage to lay my grubby mechadendrites on an Ironstrider. It will be built as a dragoon, with some alterations. I just love the anachronistical image of knightly dragoons sallying forth on their mechanical steeds - it's really the essence of 40k.

Using a spare head and a mechanical arm from the kit,  I quickly threw together this machine cultist:

Painting of the big walker engine has also commenced:

All together now: PRAISE THE OMNISSIAH!!

  1. So, is this going to be basically another Invitational entry? I like the idea of a whole collection of warbands and retinues, with each group made of of three or four models all on different size bases...

    1. Maybe. Maybe.

Or perhaps an entire army! I´ll be getting at least one of every mechanicvm kit so who knows?

  2. I like how hunched-over he looks, and very much a different style to the new Skitarii kit.

Looking forward to the Ironstrider. :)

    1. Yeah - we´ll see how that turns out. I´m having a ball painting this - big machines like this is a nice break from regular man-sized minis. You can paint in somewhat broader strokes and all that drybrushing and washing is so much fun!

  3. Awesome looking fellow, Jeff! Love what you've done with such limited parts taken from the Skitarii walker. Goes to show what can be achieved! That gun-walker of yours looks the bomb, can't wait to see them finished.

    1. There's a surprising amount of characterbits just in the ironstrider kit - I counted at least five heads. Lots of different arms as well!

  4. I should know better than to read your posts by now... they are making me have... ideas again. Just when I was trying to reign in my spending too :p

The mech is looking very intimidating

    2. Tell me about it. I was attempting to be good, but the mechanics have me wanting to jump back on the bandwagon :/

  5. Like the harlequins, and several other newer kits, I am pleased that the Skitarii exist at all... for now that is enough for me. Which is good, because were I to buy everything I wanted, well, then I would have another huge pile of boxes, 100 more partly constructed figures, and an even angrier wife. ;)

I do see some bitz orders in my future though...

    1. I hear ya.
I´ve got way too many bitz as it is... But at least I´ve never been one of those who buy an entire army in one go and then leave them to collect dust in boxes for years.

I tend to buy one kit every two months or so and normally make at least one or two mini from that box. But add the odd clampack character and bitz order and the plastic builds up...

  6. That machine cultist looks the awesome

The big walker thing is also really cool, although if it fell over, its probably screwed lol

    1. Yeah... but that´s sort of the charm with walkers. Real world physics don´t really apply. Imagine the actual gravital strains on a titan of someone actually built one. Not to mention what would happen in the if it stumbled over...
