She Who Thirsts

Hello dear readers!

Here's a whole bunch of pictures of my Slaaneshii themed entry for the Invitational for your viewing pleasure.

)+o

40 mm base: The Master

A particulary devious and scientifically minded Emperors Children renegade with a special interest in eldar soul technology. This former pupil if the notorius Fabius Bile has crossed paths with Inquisitor Carax on numerous occasions.

)+o

60mm base: The Gimp

This hulking brute is completely devoted to the Master. Rumoured to have been created by a dark fusion of haemonculii and daemonengine technology.

)+o

30mm base: The Nemesis

This eternally vigilant solitaire has hunted down The Great Enemy's minions for over a thousand years. Now he has set his sights on the Master.

I hope everyone's checking out all the fantastic stuff on show on Ironsleet - it is a quite spectacular parade of great miniatures...

Ta-daaaa!!

The Invitational has reached it's final phase and today the turn has come to my Slaaneshii themed entry. Head on over to Iron Sleet and check 'em out!

Oh - and don't forget to have a look at the other entries. There's some truly spectacular work on display by luminaries like Mikko and JRN, with plenty more on the way. The guys will present one participant every day so this celebration of modelling creativity will continue for at least a week.

Thanks to Mikko, Kari and Migsula for inviting me to take part in this awesome event!

Bring out the Gimp

I'm done! After a long night of frenzied painting I managed to make the invitational dead line. Well...sort of. I'm a day late actually but who's counting...

Anyway, without further ado, here's a preview of the third and final model for the Invitational. I call him "The Gimp" for now - seems like an oddly fitting name as theres a certain S/M vibe over this guy.

This was one of those miniatures that felt as a total disaster until it suddenly started to work halfway into the painting process. Oh, and while I say miniture, this model is huge - the stormfiend I used as a base is about the same size as a dreadnought.
Quite pleased with how it turned out in the end, though it's admittedly a bit rough around the edges in some places.

The trio will be revealed in full colour on Iron Sleet in a few days so only a desaturated pic for now. After that I'll make a huge post here with turnarounds of the characters.
Stay tuned.

Two down...

Here's the converted Solitaire in all his desaturated glory. As with the slaanmarine I'll wait until the end of the Invitational to show him in full colour.

I've deliberately kept him clean and avoided any diamond patterns or large free hand designs. A solitaire rune on his chest and a small diamond on his left spaulder will have to suffice for now. I might go back and paint a slaaneshii rune on the back of his coat later on though.

Invitational Solitaire

Here's my second take at a converted solitaire using a wrack mask and elf archer legs.

I must confess to appreciating the decidedly non-dynamic pose of this guy after working with the super-jumpy harlequin kit for a while...

One down - two to go.

Hi folks!

The first invitational entry is now painted!
I wont post him in all his technicolour glory until the end of march, but here's a desaturated preview for you good folks.

Not quite there with the base though... I feel it misses something. Perhaps some scattered leaves would look good. But - apart from that I consider this one done!

An Inviting Marine

Good evening folks!

As requested here's a turnaround of the slaaneshi marine for the Iron Sleet Invitational.

And here's a black and white preview of the painting in progress. The observant among you might notice that the wires in his belly has been greenstuffed over.

Invitational first look

Kari, Mikko and Migs over on Iron Sleet have just posted the contributions to the 1st Iron Sleet Invitational.
And what a post it is - the brilliant conversions and minis on display is a feast for ones eyes! Head over there and have a look if you don't believe me:

My initial idea of three different Xenos was unfortunately scrapped. I had lots of plans and ideas but just couldn't get them to work like intended and soon I became stressed about the whole deal. To add injury to insult I manged to break the Hunter (the only mini I was even remotely pleased with) while working on it.
I decided to call it quits, take a step back and do something else for a while.

But in this dark hour the Prince of Chaos came to the rescue! Earlier this year I made the Diva, a follower of She who Thirsts, for a contest on the ammobunker. The big stormfiend conversion - with the talos helmet on - had a sort of slaaneshii look to him...
I also had a lot of fun with my other chaos themed retinues ( Nurglii and Mhorrigotii) but had never done much with Slaanesh, except for a slaanmarine quite a while back.

So the decision was made, a Slaaneshii gang it was!

With the change of theme I got my mojo back and soon these three miscreants stood on my desk:

The Hunter

Finally some long avaited bitz arrived in the mail which helped me move forward with xenos no.2.

Inspired loosely by John's sanctioned xenos sketch (shown in the first invitational post and which in turn I feel is at least somewhat inspired by the Predator) this guys working name has become "the Hunter". Here's where he's at at the moment.

The spear tip is deliberately not in the picture as I haven't finished the design of the business end of the weapon.

Nasty, brutish and tall.

Here's a new take on the big guy! Termagant head partly covered in grey stuff hood (chopped off from an old conversion that I never liked anyway). Armament is a rather hefty poweraxe made from the dreadknight hammer.

What do you think about this configuration dear readers?

Oh, if anybody has a spare dreadknight left fist I'd love to trade it for something from my rather extensive bitz box.

Big xenos

After the completion of the Diva the focus is back on the xenos trio for the Iron Sleet Invitational. Here's a mockup of the big guy on a 60mm base ( part of the challenge is to use bases of different size for all three models).

Not sure about the mask as it does makes him look a bit like a grotesque. On the other hand it does fit rather perfectly... But I'm looking for other options. If anybody's got a spare dark elf cold one head lying around I'd be very interested indeed..

The Diva beside it for size reference.

The 1st Iron Sleet Invitational

Today I've got a special announcement!

My friends over on the newly started überblog Iron Sleet has invited me to partake in their first communal effort. Here's their pitch:

Iron Sleet Invitational 1 – All your Bases Are Belong To Us

  • pick a strong theme that studies the Warhammer 40000 universe, or it’s history!
  • build and convert 3 models that are
  • each based on a differently sized citadel base that have been creatively enhanced to really tell the narrative and make it a group. (25, 32, 40, 50, 60mm… or biker base, or flyer or…)
  • we encourage to make the three individuals as different in physique, stature, movement, category as possible, while maintaining the group identity.
  • start and announce of invitational February 1st
  • WIP pictures in Black and White from all contestants March 1st. (but many bloggers intend to share their progress as they go, including us!)
  • Final results of finished miniatures April 1st
So, thems the rules!

My plan is to do three different xenos (of various sizes) belonging to races without official models. Some may take inspiration from official concepts, like John´s ferocious predator-like bountyhunter:

Most likely however, they'll be creatures of my own design. The main point is doing something completely new while still making the xenos fit into the 40k universe

I´ll also design them to make it look like they´re part of the same gang or retinue. These are to be guns for hire - rather unsavoury characters one would encounter in, say, scruffy fringe world cantinas and other such hives of scum and villany...
They could do work for the Ordos but just as well sell their services to a criminal enterprise.
In other words, one small-ish xenos, one medium sized xenos and one big xenos.

This going to be a lot of fun and I'm really happy to be invited to take part in this. Praise to Mikko,Kari and Migsula for  initiating this crazy endeavour!
